PATTARA Family

P.C. Varghese (Vakkachan ) 5th generation 1924 – 1956 :- Born on 28th August 1924 Varghese was the youngest among the four the sons of Chandy & Mariam couple of Puthenpurakkl. He was very hansom and was affectionately called Vakkachan. After his High School studies he joined his family business of “Copra and oil” along with his brothers. He was very caring and loving and maintained very good relation with all family members and used to visit them every sunday. Vakkachan married Eliyamma daughter of Outhachan & Mariamma of well known Thottassery family and settled at Puthenpurakkal tharavadu. The couple had four children, Alexander (Kunju), Joseph (Jossy), Mariamma, Georgekutty. Vakkachan met with an accident on 21st April1956 on the previous day of his elder brother’s house warming which was fatal. It was a shock not only to the Pattara family but also to the entire village. Vakkachan passed away at the age of 32, leaving his four young children to the care of Eliyamma who was only 28 years. Eliyamma,who a very brave lady, lived the rest of her life for the children. She had to struggle hard to give proper education to the children from the meager in come from the savings of her late husband and the insurance amount. Later she could find decent alliance for all her four children and ensured all are settled properly. Eliyamma passed away peacefully on 28.04.1991 at the age of 63. Before her departure Puthenpurakkal tharavad was renovated.
